Anchor is Foul
marine distress flag, small boat anchor and chain, sand from Rhode Island shoreline
“Anchor is Foul” is a standard term used in weighing anchor, a report that the chain has become hooked, entangled, or twisted. In this piece I use ready made items to combine a sense of security with a sense of distress. The anchor is taken out of its normal element, the sea bottom, and is placed on land. It sits within the sand, secure…however it muffles the symbol of distress, making the call for help unreadable.
